It's official; the world can't get enough of Doom (as if you hadn't noticed already). Courtesy of UK based WildPalm, there's now even a version for Nokia's 7650 smartphone.
If you don't know what Doom is, chances are you've been living in a cave for the last 10 years or so - and if you on the other side should know the game a bit too well, chances are you at one point in your life transformed your PC room into one. Doom is the smash hit from the PC platform that was loved by players all around the world, hated by parents - and although it's been ported to countless platforms there seems to be no stopping it; welcome Doom for the Nokia 7650.
Courtesy of UK based WildPalm, the shareware version of Doom is now available for the Nokia 7650 containing the original 9 levels, as well as the full functionality of Doom as players will remember it coupled with a 4 channel audio engine and a choice between normal or full-screen graphics. To enable sound, however, a user must either have one of WildPalm's other applications for the 7650 installed, or purchase an upgrade to enable sound for $10 USD - while the shareware version itself is, like the original, free.
 | | Ill: WildPalm |
The Doom 7650 upgrade automatically includes support for sound without having to install other games from WildPalm, and also adds new features such as allowing users what mission to start with, 3 additional game modes, a quick reset function for when the phone is low on memory, a high quality renderer which uses bi-linear filtering to improve graphics and the option to play in landscape mode.
As can be expected, Doom for the 7650 is split into several .sis installation files, in order to aid installation due to the large size of the game - installation will according to WildPalm not work correctly if there is less than approximately 2 MB of free space on the phone.
