EMTAC, Transplant Computing, and Mapopolis have released a complete GPS bundle for Palm OS devices with new hardware and software. The best part? It connects via Bluetooth, and takes full advantage of OS 5.
One of the first accessories to appear with the Palm Tungsten T specifically in mind, the verbosely-named EMTAC Wireless Bluetooth GPS With Mapopolis Platinum Edition Software offers users a single, all-in-one package for wireless GPS capabilities on a Bluetooth-enabled Palm OS device.

The EMTAC GPS module is the first commercially available Bluetooth GPS unit. About the size of a credit card but several times thicker, the 61 gram unit connects to the GPS satellite network for GPS data, and then relays that information to a handheld via Bluetooth. Software on the handheld then offers the user position-based navigation and location services. It runs off of an internal rechargeable battery, and has an internal antenna.
The bundle includes a new ARMlet-based version of mapping software Mapopolis 5.0 Platinum Edition, designed to take full advantage of the ARM-based OMAP1510 processor in the new Bluetooth-enabled Palm Tungsten T. It generates turn-by-turn directions and allows users to view recently used addresses, mark map locations and add their own locations to the map. Mapopolis also takes advantage of the Tungsten T's new D-Pad for one-handed usage of the map, freeing up the other hand for more important matters, such as driving.
With the new ARM-optimized version of Mapopolis, the program is able to generate driving directions in real time, and pan the display with virtually instant redraw. Mapopolis offers maps for most US, European, and Canadian cities. With the Bluetooth connection, the GPS receiver itself need not be in line-of-sight with the handheld.
The complete bundle is available from GPS retailer Transplant Computing for $369.99 USD. Mapopolis Platinum Edition is available separately from the Mapopolis web site for $34.95 USD.
