First and foremostly targeted at youths, the 3330 is the successor to the hugely popular 3310, and has improvements such as WAP and voice dialling.
Nokia always had a special appeal in the youth market - mainly because the company was the first to see the potential of communications-hungry youths and created products with that market in mind. The Nokia 3330 follows up on trends and tricks found in earlier phones such as the Nokia 3310, to which it is a direct successor.
 | | Offering improved messaging capabilities and a WAP browser, Nokia targets the youth with 3330 | A small breakthrough for youths will be the ability to WAP with the 3330, something which hasn't been possible with previous phones targeted at this market. The phone's WAP browser supports version 1.1, and will be capable of showing most WAP sites present today - and by the time it's outdated, youths have already switched to a newer model.
Also introduced in the 3310 is a new set of features for Club Nokia Members. The gaming capabilities are improved with a totally new game called 'Bumper', as well as with new game packs for Space Impact and Snake II, downloadable to the phone over WAP from Club Nokia. Users can send high scores to Club Nokia and compete with other players, from where they also can download brand new animated screen savers. In addition, the new phone enables its users to play individual or interactive multi-party WAP games that will be available on operator portals.
Other new features in the Nokia 3330 include voice dialling with capacity for dialling eight numbers, an internal phone book for 100 names, and a new 'first vibrate then ring' ringing option. The messaging functionality in the 3330 incorporates the mobile chat feature, and other enhanced messaging capabilities include predictive text input as well as picture messaging with 12 default pictures and space for a picture received over the air. The Nokia 3330 also supports concatenated messaging enabling three times longer messages than usual.
The Nokia 3330 has three new graphical Xpress-on covers with a picture holder inside the cover, where you can keep a picture of someone special in sight. In addition, the Nokia 3330 has four accessory Xpress-on colored covers and three graphical covers. All the Nokia 3310 accessories, including the colored covers, are also compatible with this phone.
Being a dual band EGSM 900/1800 MHz phone, the Nokia 3330 should work like a charm in densily populated areas with heavy mobile phone usage. With the low weight of 133 grams, it still manages to provide up to 4.5 hours of talk time and 260 hours of standby time using the standard NiMH battery. Availability is expected in the second quarter of 2001 - in other words, it's right around the corner. And, if you want a sneak peek - just stop by the next pages and you'll get to see the 3330 up close.
