Toshiba has launched its first European mobile phone - the TS21i - in the Netherlands. To operate on KPN Mobile's i-mode network, the TS21 be the second European i-mode phone.
Europe's second i-mode phone - and Toshiba's first mobile phone for the European market - has now been launched on KPN Mobile's i-mode network in the Netherlands, providing subscribers with a choice. It's a bit behind schedule, though, since it was originally slated for an introduction late in the summer.

| The TS21i comes with a display capable of showing 256 colours, offers dual-band GSM 900/1800 MHz, GPRS Class 8, support for English, French, German, Italian, Dutch and Spanish - it's almost so Toshiba expects i-mode to spread quickly beyond the only two networks in operation in the Netherlands and Germany - an i-mode browser, support for i-mode mail and T9 for speedy SMS texting.
Also, now-common polyphonic ring tones are also supported, and the TS21i has a storage that can hold up to 10 of these in addition to the 20 embedded ones - and 20 downloadable pictures that can serve as background images for the phone. There's also a phone book capable of holding 250 entries with 20 groups, a scheduler function comprising a calendar, reminder capabilities and notes, two embedded games and clock and alarm functionality.
Additional functionality in the TS21i includes vibrating call alert, call lists over the last 10 missed, called and received calls, speed dialing for up to 7 numbers and lastly 5 different audio profiles. The talk time of the phone is listed as up to 180 minutes, with a standby time of up to 180 hours. The TS21i measures 120 mm x 51 mm x 21 mm, and weighs in at 98g.
A standard accessory included with the TS21i is a travel charger, while optional accessories will include a spare battery, a headset, car charger, leather case and a data cable for synchronizing information with a desktop PC.
