The low-end iPAQ H1910 model isn't all HP is about to unleash; the high-end iPAQ H5450 comes with a 400 MHz XScale processor, 64 MB RAM, integrated WLAN, Bluetooth and more.
Despite Hewlett-Packard launching a low-end handheld in the shape of its H1910 model, it's in no way abandoning its tradition of delivering some of the most powerful Pocket PCs to market. Previously exposed on infoSync, the first model in HP's H5400 series - the H5450 - has now been unveiled to offer more features than any other Pocket PC currently on the market.
 | When it comes to built-in features, the H5450 beats everything else on the market
| Featuring a 400 MHz Intel XScale PXA250 processor, 64 MB of RAM and a whopping 48 MB of ROM, the H5450 already competes in the top of the high-end market. Add to that features like a 3.8" 16-bit transflective TFT display of the same, much lauded kind used in the iPAQ H3900 series, an SDIO capable SD/MMC Card expansion slot and a fingerprint reader - and the device already stands out in a crowd.
But the H5450 series also has something no other handheld on the market to date offers, its fingerprint reader aside; integrated WLAN - and Bluetooth - capabilities. HP did not comment on whether the device would be able to operate both WLAN and Bluetooth simultaneously, but the H5450 is nevertheless equipped with an antenna to improve the range of wireless transmissions of both kinds.
The H5450 also comes with Nevo's Universal Remote software which makes use of the extended Infrared port of the device to control a wide range of consumer appliances including TVs, stereos, VCRs and DVD players.
Unlike the H1910 model, the H5450 supports Compaq's expansion sleeve system where the H1910 doesn't. Another difference relates to weight, since where the H1910 weighs in at a mere 4.2 ounces (119 g), the H5450 weighs in at a whopping 7.1 ounces (201 g) - the price paid for the extensive number of features the device offers. What the two models share, however, is an exchangeable battery.
An additional hi-res picture of the iPAQ H5450 is available on the following page.
