FrogPad leaps into spotlight

Aching for a new text input solution that doesn't involve foldable keyboards or thumbboards? If so, the FrogPad - recently previewed at COMDEX - might be right up your pond.
As any user of a mobile device will know, one of the greatest limitations - perhaps except for when using a laptop - of such devices becomes very apparent when trying to input text. Existing solutions are for the most part poorer choices than a fully fledged keyboard, and even the QWERTY keyboard was designed to hamper the speed of eager typists in the 19th century so these would avoid getting their typewriters in a jam frequently. Now, yet another company has a go at this - for handheld users - age old problem.

FrogPad's patented keyboard technology offers one-handed data entry for virtually any mobile device, and unlike various other wireless data entry methods goes by the approach of a fully functional keypad meant to be operated by one hand only. The company's technology was recently shown at COMDEX, including a keyboard for handheld devices built by award-winning industrial design agency IDEO, known among other things for its design of the Palm V.
The company aims to license its patented data entry technology, keyboard layout and algorithms to wireless service providers and manufacturers, and said one licensee already plans to manufacture evaluation units which will be sold through a variety of retail partners and will be offered for evaluation to key industry analysts. No information was provided on availability and pricing.
