Samsung's first mobile phone with an integrated digital camera has been launched, sporting tri-band GSM/GPRS. In Europe, it's called the v200, and in the U.S., the SGH-v205.
First came Nokia's 7650, then came Sony Ericsson's P800 - and now, Samsung is launching its first mobile phone with an integrated digital camera as the third of the big four manufacturers. The mobile phone, to be dubbed as the v200 in Europe and the SGH-v205 in the states, offers tri-band 900/1800/1900 MHz GSM, as well as Class 8 GPRS.

The new handset, like most recent models from Samsung, bears a clam-shell design where the integrated digital camera is placed just above the keypad and near the hinge, allowing it to rotate 180 degrees to snap pictures in both directions from the phone. The main display of the phone acts as a viewfinder with its 128 x 160 pixel resolution, offering 16-bit color using TFD technology, and a dedicated camera trigger button is also in place.
In addition, the phone also has an external display, for showing Caller ID with animated graphics, and users also can choose to set pictures they take to appear as wallpaper on the phone as well as assign pictures to serve as caller ID on the main display.
GPRS Class 8 is also on the feature list, enabling high-speed e-mail sending and receiving, as well as speedy MMS service. Pictures taken with the phone can be sent through either, and through its microbrowser the handset offers WAP surfing and the downloading of J2ME applications and games. PIM tools are also available, including a calendar, alarm, calculator, to-do list functions and a currency calculator.
Combined, the features of the handset have been compress into a shell measuring 91 x 48 x 23 mm (4.3" x 1.8" x .9"), which weighs in at 96 g (3.4 oz). Talk time is listed as up to 4 hours, while standby time is listed as up to 100 hours.
The SGH-v205 is already available in the U.S. through T-Mobile for $449 USD, whilst the v200 is slated for general availability in Europe in March, 2003.
Additional hi-res pictures of the Samsung v200/SGH-v205 are available on the following pages.
