Valentine cards on the move

Personalized Valentine's Day e-cards can now be sent directly from one Pocket Internet Explorer-enabled device user to another, courtesy of GridBloc's Greetings service.
Avoiding fees normally tied to sending picture messages and instead relying on e-mail and SMS as a means of transport, GridBloc's Greeting service lets Desktop, Pocket PC and Smartphone 2002 device users send personalized Valentine's Day e-cards to loved ones who use the latter two kinds of devices. Pocket Internet Explorer is at the core of the concept, as is the hyperlinking of URLs in Microsoft's Smartphone 2002 and Pocket PC Phone Edition platforms.
Announced just in time for Valentine’s Day, GridBloc Greetings also lets users send pre-written SMS messages to users of conventional mobile phones at no cost, whereas creating and sending messages from the Pocket Internet Explorer-adapted interface of the service incurs normal airtime charges. Messages can also be sent to mobile device users from any desktop PC.
Initially available in English, GridBloc said its Greetings service will soon be available in the same four languages of English, French, Spanish and Japanese as the mobile GridBloc Comix, from which many of the characters are drawn.
Technically, GridBloc Greetings are made possible by a custom software bridge developed by GridBloc to facilitate visual messaging spanning from mobile devices and desktops. Delivered to traditional e-mail accounts as a standard e-mail, Greetings delivered to rich-media mobiles are formatted as SMS with a link, rendered clickable by the Microsoft Smartphone 2002 and Pocket PC Phone Edition platforms. GridBloc Greetings mobile recipients then simply click the hyperlink to see their e-greeting.
