Opera now available for the P800

Racking up another win in the Symbian camp, version 6.1 of Norway-based Opera's microbrowser for the UIQ-based Sony Ericsson P800 is now available as a free download.
In conjunction with the 3GSM Conference in Cannes, Sony Ericsson P800 owners can now download the Opera for Symbian OS mobile browser for free to their phones. With the new version 6.1 of Opera, P800 owners will be the first to make use of Norway-based Opera's Small-Screen Rendering (SSR) technology. Introduced in October of this year, the agreement represents a breakthrough for Opera's SSR, as well as another Symbian win for the company.

According to Opera, its Small-Screen Rendering technology has cracked the small-screen problem that has plagued the mobile Internet for years. With Small-Screen Rendering, Opera 6.1 for the P800 reformats the presentation of pages made for the desktop web to fit on a smaller screen, eliminating the need for horizontal scrolling.
The browser supports a veritable smorgasboard of standards, enabling users to view virtually any web page. These include HTML 4.01, ECMA-252 2nd and 3rd ed., JavaScript 1.5, XHTML 1.0/1.1, XHTML Basic, XHTML MP, CSS 1 and 2, CSS MP, WML 1.3, WCSS, cHTML, HTTP 1.0 and 1.1, SSL 3/TLS 1.0 and Unicode (UTF-16).
The Opera for the P800 browser is now available from Sony Ericsson's web site as a free download to P800 owners.
