Taking square aim at underdeveloped markets, Nokia today introduced two new low-end additions to the Finnish manufacturer's already vast range of mobile phones. Complimenting the recently launched Nokia 2100, the Nokia 1100 and 2300 models launched today both aim to offer simple voice and messaging functionality at an affordable price.

Nokia's 1100 model offers barebones mobility to keep its price down
The Nokia 1100 phone, launched at simultaneously held events in Moscow, Russia and New Delhi, India works in GSM 900/1800 networks and is planned to be available during the fourth quarter of 2003. Similarly, the Nokia 2300 is also a dual band GSM 900/1800 MHz phone, but is slated for introduction throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East during the 1st quarter of 2004.

Weighing 93 grams, the Nokia 1100 phone features anti-slip sides to provide a better grip as well as reduce the risk of dust and rain damage. A black and white display with a resolution of 96 x 65 pixels provides a user interface offering up to 4 lines of text, and other features include a stopwatch, alarm clock, flashlight, vibrating alert, and two built-in games. According to Nokia, the Nokia 1100 offers a talk time of up to 4 hours and 30 minutes and a standby time of up to 400 hours.

The Nokia 2300, on its side, is according to Nokia targeted more specifically at the younger crowd in new growth markets such as China, India and Russia. This handset offers users a range of Xpress-on cover options, as well as built-in polyphonic ring tones, an FM radio, and several embedded games.

Other features of the Nokia 2300 will be an alarm clock, a calculator, an FM radio and an internal hands-free speaker for group communication. A dual-earpiece headset will be included in the sales package, allowing users to listen to the radio or make hands-free calls on the go. Also in the Nokia 2300, a new 4-way scroll with a Navi key lets users right scroll to reach shortcuts to menus or options lists.

The Nokia 2300 is also the first Nokia phone to enable users to filter out junk text messages from unwanted numbers, and offers other features new to Nokia phones such as an in-call timer and SMS counter to keep track of the number of text messages sent or received.

Weighing in at 92 grams, the Nokia 2300 will according to Nokia offer up to 4,5 hours of talk-time and up to 400 hours of stand-by time.
